MID JANUARY UPDATE
It has been a busy few weeks. I apologize for the lack of Substack updates. Let me get you caught up on all the new content.
ARCADE’S JUKEBOX
Since I took the music streaming down from my website I have been wanting to get something back up there for you guys. The main motivation for me is so that you have an alternative to the major platforms which can’t help themselves when it comes to jamming narratives and things you don’t care about down your food-hole. The original format I had was clunky. Each song listed on its own. It would all load at once slowing down your device and you would have to click play on the next song every time one finished. If you clicked on two songs by mistake, both would play overtop of eachother at the same time in certain browsers. It wasn’t how I wanted to give you an alternative, but it was all I was capable of at the time. The new jukebox is much better.
The new jukebox is on a dedicated page. The song you select shouldn’t load until you click on it. Once that song finishes the next one will play automatically. If you click a song while one is playing, it will just start playing from there. While this player is sophisticated to the level I want it to be, this is the “alpha launch” which I will continue to work on with time. It took me quite a bit of learning and skill-acquisition, but in the long-run this is just going to help me make better content for you.

THE NEW WEST
THE NEW WEST is an instrumental western song I wrote shortly after working on that Ian Tyson song from the last update I shared. I have long wanted to do an instrumental western album. I love western music. I don’t believe it gets enough sunshine for how atmospheric and mood-inspiring it can be. Between RIDE THE RISING SUN and THE NEW WEST I am well on my way to completing this album. I’ve always wanted to shoot a western too… this could be the soundtrack… one thing at a time…
BLUEGRASS TAPES
I think if I ever get back to playing live concerts I would begin with a bluegrass tour. I don’t know what struck me to sit down and record this song a few days ago, but I did and I’m glad I did. It’s fun to take a spin on something I’ve written before. There has been some interest in finishing an album of bluegrass tunes as well. More about this will be coming soon.
DEATH VALLEY MILITIA
After finishing up IDAHO in the style of bluegrass, I was already deep in waves of inspiration. I was watching some of the doomer news cycle; a combination of telegram and twitter. I had enough. If anyone is going to raise the flag back up and take some ground back it’s going to be us. I put that energy into the re-recording of Bury Me With My Boots On. I’ll be honest. I really don’t like punk, so let’s just call it rock & roll. Heavy fast rock & roll haha.
A couple days after the first one, I went to the liquor store with my wife and the savings were pretty unreal… I don’t know if you were around for my podcast when I went and got drunk last year ago with some local boys. One is the owner of the bar we were at and a proper patriot. Anyways he had a deal with the restaurant attached. I would have been missing out had I not bought all that chicken that night! In kind, ten-bucks off a 15 of Corona was a deal I went for. Those marketers got me… I got a little tuned up on barley pops and record another DVM song. 12 beers will do that to me. In the style of, “every lousy hardcore-metal guy you ever knew” I cut this song:
I used to love this kind of music when I was a skateboarding idiot in my mid to late teens. It was fun to put a message I believed in behind something passionate like this. The message being up to your own interpretation, but… let’s just say we tried to warn them and they turned on us. We do those people we used to know no service by propping up their delusions.
This is pretty wild you know. That was like 7 days of content. There’s more, but this is what’s relevant to right now. I’ll have more to show you very shortly. What are the other musicians even doing? I’ll never know, because I don’t care. I care about you guys though. I hope you are well and we’ll talk soon. Thank you for reading. Share this with a friend.
Enjoy the jukebox! You can choose to throw a few dollars in the jukebox on that page.
Talk soon buddies and beauties.
